Model 2405 Conveyor: AWD's Choice For Handling 200,000 lbs of Recycled Plastic
When American Wick Drain (AWD) Corporation in Monroe, North Carolina, decided to grind and recycle their scrap plastic in-house, a Patz Model 2405 Conveyor was their choice for material handling.
AWD is America's largest, full-line manufacturer of prefabricated soil drains. These drains are made using a formed plastic core, which is covered on one or both sides with an advanced geotextile filter fabric.
According to Scott Morris, P.E., Manager - Product Development, the Patz conveyor is an integral part of their material reclamation system. A Model 2405 Conveyor with incline kit is being used to move ground, recycled plastic from a grinder to storage boxes.
"We generate approximately 200,000 pounds of scrap plastic a year," says Morris. "(The Patz conveyor) is part of the system that allows us to efficiently grind our scrap plastic for reuse in our manufacturing process."
Morris says their experience with Patz has been very positive since purchasing the conveyor in September 2005.
"Considering the entire project, the conveyor system provided us with the fewest surprises, which is a good thing." Adds Morris, "We actually assembled the unit ourselves in-house and the sales staff did a good job of letting us know what to expect ahead of time."
Various conveyor lengths from 4 to 120 feet are possible with the Model 2405 Conveyor. 10 foot conveyor sections can be field cut to exact lengths for a custom fit. According to Morris, AWD modified their conveyor by cutting one 10' section in half to give them a 5' horizontal section and a 15' inclined section.
"The Patz sales force did a great job of analyzing our need and recommending the proper equipment," says Morris. "The conveyor works as advertised and has fulfilled our needs."
